Stream of Consciousness

In his novel, 'The Thief and the Dogs' Mahfouz is seen using a stream of consciousness narration style in his novel. Specificity through an omniscient narrator being Said. The idea of an omniscient narrator is they they can comment on the thoughts, ideas and emotions of other character. For the novel of The Thief and the Dogs this narrator is Said. Speaking form, the perspective of someone who is just released form prison. In a stage called New Media Res. This builds characters of others in the novel as they were before his incarceration. where in that time they have changed? and thus... we see this implemented in Mahfouz's novel in the form of a flash back.  Flash Backs are the specific tool he uses to create a stream of consciousness. through indirect diallage with other characters and inner reflection we are shown a new angle of Said’s development as a charchter. Blog 28 - literature in translation

It is one thing, a skill -- to take a thought or ideas and put it into clear writing in that anyone can read and understand the intentions of the reader. It is another to translate a written piece of work and retain the same integrity it initially had. In this last section of my English HL language and literature, course sees the examination of the text was initially written in Arabic and has been translated into English .  when it comes to translations there are two approaches , one approach is to convey a literal translation that converts each word for word, and more likely than not is that meaning will be lost in this example and references don't mean the same in different language cultures . the other way is to translate to an understood meaning, where the idea and messaging are preserved but that integrity of the product/written piece dissolves away.  In and of its self this consideration brings us a crossroad of wither we want to remain...

Blog #25: David Foster and TEWWG

David Foster Wallace’s theory is that when we run on autopilot we don’t think, we don’t think in the right way at the least, we tend to consider the wort scenarios and we become mad at our selves for being in situations that we deem to be unpleasant. Through what put us there in the first place is a single careless mistake what could easily be reverted. Then again if we change the mindset and consider other possibilities for yourself it becomes clear that things could be much worse than they are now. So, your predicament doesn’t seem so bad anymore. This relates to TEWWG seen especially with the trends of Janie’s relationships. Tea Cake the character is seen very early in the novel as a sort of free spirit, essentially the perfect man for Janie but she is oblivious, like Wallace references that sometimes the best and most important and essential things in life is right in front of us, but we just don’t realize it.
